Pele is the soul of Kilauea, the sacred volcano at the heart of the Hawaiian islands. She is also one of the great elemental builders of our planet, the fiery Creatrix birthing new lands, stirring the ocean, and creating the atmosphere itself as she creates from the Earth's hot, molten core.

PELE
by Karina McAbee

I am Pele Honua Mea
I come from the fiery heart of the Earth

I erupted in the ocean many years ago.
In ecstasy, I spewed my lava into the sea
in clouds of red, and black.

Slowly I built the tallest mountains in the world....
the islands you call Hawaii.

I give you the beauty of my lands.
Honor me and my sacred mountain, Kilauea.
Take not one small rock from my body!
Do not violate me! Or feel my wrath!

You call me capricious, violent.
My fires are the fires of Creation!
Shaping new islands, new land
My eruptions deep in the sea
stir the great waters, stir the air

I, Pele Honua Mea stir the cauldron of life!
Rising from the core of the Earth,
Rise from the core of your being

Use your anger now
dissolve old patterns and fears
barriers to your true expression.
begin again in new and fertile ground!

Ignite! Be transformed
at this time of the great change!
Arise and dance with me!
